The COVID-19 pandemic may create drastic, lasting changes—be it the way we live, work and travel. While some airlines are contemplating removing middle seats to adhere to social distancing norms, an airplane interiors company—Aviointeriors has revealed two economy cabin seat designs. These seat concepts were to be unveiled at this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany. However, as the event was cancelled due to the pandemic, the design firm decided to showcase their ideas online.

‘Janus’

The first seat design by Aviointeriors is known as ‘Janus,’ named after a two-faced Roman god. The ‘Janus’ seating concept is a two-faced or S-shaped seat design, where the aisle and window seats are facing forward, and the middle seat is facing backwards, towards the rear of the aircraft to ensure “maximum isolation between passengers seated next to each other,” as stated by Avionteriors.
